Growth Form and Foliage
- Small tree or big shrub, 2 - 15 m tall, with neat appearance.
- Stalked leaves 5 - 16 by 3 - 8 cm.
- Each leaf has 5 - 9 pairs of secondary veins.
Flowers
- Flowers small, 0.8 - 1.2 cm in diameter.
- Flowers are either male or female but not both (dioecious).
Fruits
Fruits resemble small limes, 2.5 - 3.5 by 2 - 2.5 cm.
Habitat
Terrestrial: Monsoon Forests, Coastal Forests, Primary Rainforests and Secondary Rainforests.
Ethnobotanical features
- Important medicinal plant and known as 'heavenly fruit' in its native range.
- Phytochemicals possibly effective against HIV and breast cancer.
- It is cultivated as an ornamental plant, harvested as timber to be used as rafters and firewood.
